Orci

Orci is a village 8 km from Kaposvár. There was a settlement on the territory about 2000 years BC what is supported by the finds and the remains from the Roman period which came to light during the roadworks. Denominators of the village were -probably- the knights of Orczy Order who participated in defeating Koppány. The Calvinist church was built in 1737, rebuilt in 1844-47, and there is the parson’s office next to it. The monument Baroque Roman Catholic church was built in the 18th century, later it was restyled and enlarged in the 20th century. The former Orczy mansion and the Jókúti stone cross is also found in the village. A popular trip spot is the surrounding of the fishing pond. The village is also famous for one of the greatest painters of the early 20th century - Lajos Kunffy born here and Zoltán Tildy, the former Prime Minister of Hungary who was a Protestant priest here between 1919 and 1921. The village of 600 dwellers has a very vivid cultural life, the Hajdina folk dance group is known all over the county and they are permanent participants on village days.
