Nagyberki

Nagyberki municipality is situated 20 km eastwards from Kaposvár, next to the National road no. 61, 15 km from Dombóvár, in the valley of the river Kapos. On the outskirts of the village finds, tumuluses, earthworks and entrenchments that were found show that this venue was inhabited by Celts in the middle of the millennium prior to the common era. The ancient Szalacska settlement as a princely site was a a Transdanubian centre with a mint, bronze foundry and a blacksmith shop. Once there was a castle on the Szalacska hill, nowadays the chapel of St. Antal is found there and including the Kata hill they are excellent wine growing areas. This municipality has always been a centre of the adjoining villages, as a tanács centre (local council during the Soviet system) and as a notarial centre. Presently it is a notarial centre of four villages. In Nagyberki it is worth visiting the Roccocco Vigyázó castle from the 1700s where the Department of Modern Age of Somogy County Archive is found. The Vadaskerti lake is a marvellous possibility for distraction.
