Kiskorpád

This multisectioned village is located 16 km from Kaposvár, along the National Road No. 61. In written form it is first mentioned in 1324 as Kupad. Since 1726 it was the estate of the Sárközy family. When a carthographic study for military pursposes was made, the municipality had a stone church and three mansions made from solid material. The Calvinist church was built in 1792 by János Sárközy. His guest in the village was Csokonai Vitéz Mihály when he resided in Somogy in 1798-99. He wrote several of his poems here. The Kapos river and the Koroknyai-árok take their source on the outskirts of the village. Eight lakes enrich the water system. Szigetestó- the lake was put into shape about a century ago and it is popular nowadays. In a silent, secluded place we find the Kapotsfy sepulchral chapel in the boundaries of Kiskorpád – being under reconstruction.
