Gige
This municipality stretches 23 km southwest from Kaposvár, it is only 7 km distant from Kiskorpád along the main road No. 61. It is mentioned as early as 1332-37 in the Papal tithing register, a century later it belonged to the market town Hedrehely under the name Gegeh. The form Gyge was first mentioned in 1446 in a Deed of gift of János Hunyadi. In the 18th century the possessors of the village were families Mérey, Somssich and Eszterházy. Gige was a proliferous, well farmed municipality at the turn of the century and the subsequent decades. The scenery is diversified: the village is situated on the edge of the hilly area of Zselic and the sandy ridge of Inner Somogy. In the fields we see mainly plant production of corn and wheat. Visitors of this area will meet constantly changing colours of nature. The Calvinist church of Gige according to chronicles is the oldest nearby. During several reconstructions graves were found and, among other finds, a carved stone tablet in Hebrew.
